The Story Behind It

The Tale of Nauruan Grilled Tuna

Story updated

Tuna fishing is central to Nauru's surrounding waters and economy, part of the broader Pacific tuna fishery that many island nations depend on. Grilling it simply reflects an everyday island approach to cooking: let a freshly caught, high-quality fish speak for itself.

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
