The Tale of Nkhwani (Malawian Pumpkin Leaf Relish)
Story updated
Nkhwani, a relish of pumpkin leaves cooked down with tomato, onion, and sometimes ground peanuts, is a classic Malawian side dish built from vegetables long grown in home gardens across the country. Like similar greens relishes found throughout Southern and East Africa, it turns an everyday, inexpensive ingredient into a flavorful counterpart to nsima.
