Ingredients
- 2 lb pork shoulder, cubed
- 3 tbsp lard or oil
- 2 onions, finely diced
- 3 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- 1 tsp hot paprika (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup water or broth
- Salt and black pepper
Instructions
- 1Cook onions in lard over low heat until very soft and golden, about 15 minutes.
- 2Remove from heat and stir in sweet and hot paprika.
- 3Add the pork and garlic and return to the heat, stirring to coat the meat in the paprika onions.
- 4Stir in tomato and bell pepper, then add just enough water to keep the mixture from sticking.
- 5Cover and simmer very gently for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally and adding a splash of water if needed, until the pork is fork-tender and the sauce is thick.
- 6Season with salt and pepper and serve with nokedli or crusty bread.
