Ingredients

  • 1 lb phyllo dough, thawed
  • 3 cups chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup chopped pistachios
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Instructions

  1. 1Mix walnuts, pistachios, cinnamon, and cloves for the filling.
  2. 2Butter a baking dish and layer 8-10 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with melted butter.
  3. 3Sprinkle a third of the nut mixture over the phyllo, then repeat layering phyllo and nuts twice more, finishing with a stack of 8-10 buttered phyllo sheets on top.
  4. 4Cut the baklava into diamond shapes before baking.
  5. 5Bake at 325°F for 40-45 minutes until golden and crisp.
  6. 6Meanwhile, simmer sugar, water, honey, lemon juice, and cinnamon stick for 10 minutes to make a syrup; cool slightly.
  7. 7Pour the warm syrup evenly over the hot baklava.
  8. 8Let cool completely, uncovered, for several hours before serving.
