Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 3/4 cups warm water
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1 cup honey syrup
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- Ground cinnamon, for dusting
Instructions
- 1Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
- 2Whisk in the flour and salt until you have a smooth, thick, sticky batter, similar to a loose pancake batter.
- 3Cover and let the batter rise in a warm place for 60-90 minutes until doubled and bubbly.
- 4Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to about 180C (355F).
- 5Using a wet hand or spoon, scoop small portions of batter and drop them carefully into the hot oil.
- 6Fry in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and puffed, about 3-4 minutes per batch.
- 7Drain briefly on paper towels, then immediately drizzle generously with warm honey syrup.
- 8Scatter with chopped walnuts and a dusting of cinnamon, and serve warm.
