Ingredients

  • 5 lb apples, peeled, cored, and quartered
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, or to taste
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. 1Place the apple quarters in the slow cooker along with the water.
  2. 2Sprinkle the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice over the apples and stir gently to coat.
  3. 3Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 4 hours, until the apples are completely soft and falling apart.
  4. 4Mash the apples with a potato masher directly in the slow cooker for a chunky texture, or blend with an immersion blender for a smoother sauce.
  5. 5Taste and add more sugar or cinnamon if needed, then serve warm or chilled.
