The Tale of Garlic Sauteed Green Beans
Story updated
Sautéing green beans with garlic is a simple technique found across many cuisines. Green beans themselves are native to the Americas and were cultivated by Indigenous peoples long before spreading globally after European contact.
Ingredients
Scale:· 4 servings
- 1 lb green beans, trimmed
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp toasted sliced almonds (optional)
Instructions
- 1Blanch the green beans in boiling salted water for 3 minutes, then drain and transfer to ice water to stop the cooking.
- 2Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and add the garlic, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
- 3Add the drained green beans and toss to coat, cooking for 4-5 minutes, until heated through and slightly blistered.
- 4Season with salt and pepper, top with almonds if using, and serve immediately.
