Ingredients
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 24 oz marinara sauce
- 15 oz crushed tomatoes
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 3/4 teaspoon salt, plus more for pasta water
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- 1Preheat the oven to 375 F and cook the lasagna noodles in salted boiling water until al dente, about 9 minutes, then drain and lay flat so they do not stick together.
- 2In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and onion over medium heat for about 7 minutes, then add the garlic and cook 1 minute more, draining excess fat.
- 3Stir in the marinara sauce, crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper, and simmer for 10 minutes.
- 4In a bowl, mix the ricotta, egg, half of the Parmesan, parsley, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- 5Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish, then layer noodles, a third of the ricotta mixture, a third of the remaining meat sauce, and a third of the mozzarella; repeat the layers two more times.
- 6Top the final layer with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes.
- 7Remove the foil and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbling, then let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
