The Tale of Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries
Story updated
Pairing chocolate and strawberries became popular in the 20th century as chocolate-dipping techniques spread through confectionery shops, particularly gaining association with romantic occasions like Valentine's Day from the mid-1900s onward. Its exact origin isn't well documented, but it became a classic celebration treat.
Ingredients
Scale:· 12 servings
- 12 large fresh strawberries, washed and dried well
- 8 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 tsp vegetable oil
- 2 tbsp white chocolate, melted, for drizzling (optional)
- 2 tbsp chopped nuts or sprinkles, for decorating (optional)
Instructions
- 1Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2Make sure the strawberries are completely dry, since any moisture will keep the chocolate from sticking.
- 3Melt the semisweet chocolate with the vegetable oil in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth.
- 4Holding each strawberry by the stem, dip it into the melted chocolate, twirling gently to coat about two-thirds of the berry.
- 5Place the dipped strawberries on the prepared sheet and decorate with a drizzle of melted white chocolate, chopped nuts, or sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet.
- 6Let the strawberries sit at room temperature or in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes, until the chocolate has fully set.
