The Story Behind It

The Tale of Buffalo Chicken Dip

Story updated

Buffalo chicken dip is a relatively recent American invention, developed in the 1990s or early 2000s as a party-food riff on Buffalo wings, which themselves originated at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, in 1964. The creamy baked dip became a fixture of game-day spreads.
